Buco Freight Lines Wins with an Omnitracs IVG ELD

When Ray Butler, the owner of Buco Freight Lines, LLC, started his trucking company he decided that he wanted to have an Omnitracs IVG ELD. He specifically chose the IVG (Intelligent Vehicle Gateway). He picked the IVG because it was easy to use and provided powerful features that would help his company grow.

Ray has big dreams to grow his company. He knows that to be successful he needs to have a solid foundation. That is why he chose an Omnitracs IVG ELD for his first truck. The IVG will give him easy-to-use tools to be compliant with the ELD Mandate and HOS. It also gives him GPS tracking, 2 way messaging, on board navigation, dispatch integration, plus much more.

Omnitracs IVG ELD Is Easy-to-Use

Omnitracs IVG

Currently Ray has only one truck, but the IVG was an affordable solution that made sense for complying with the ELD Mandate. Everything he needs is available in one unit. He does not have to worry about Bluetooth devices or tablets. All he had to do was plug the cable into the truck’s ECM and mount the screen to the dashboard. It’s that easy.

IVG Power Cable

Omnitracs IVG ELD Is Affordable

The Omnitracs IVG ELD is a great and affordable solution for small fleets. Many small fleets think the IVG is too expensive. However, if they take a look at the overall cost of ownership they will find the IVG is very competitive with many of the tablet based ELD solutions.

At Efficient Fleets we offer a variety of way to make the IVG affordable and easy to get. We offer purchase and lease-to-own options. A 5 year lease-to-own option starts around $18.50 per month.

If you want more info please contact us today. We offer free no obligation demos and can provide a custom quote for fleets of any size.

ELD Mandate Is On Its Way

The ELD (electronic logging device) mandate will be here very soon. If you are a trucking company or a driver then most likely you will be required to use an electronic logging device to record hours-of-service (HOS).

If you don’t already use an ELD then you have 2 choices, adopt one now or procrastinate and wait until the last minute. If you adopt one now you will start to get the benefits right away. You will also save the headache of implementing a new system at the last minute.

Read this article by Tom Cuthbertson about the benefits of implementing early. It could change your mind.

Click here to learn more about the ELD mandate. Please contact us if you have any questions about ELDs and the options available.

The purpose of this blog is to provide an easy to use source for facts and requirements for electronic logging devices. Please refer to the FMCSA’s ELD rule page for more details.

All CDL drivers who keep a Record of Duty Status (RODS) will be required by the FMCSA to use an ELD by December 18, 2017. Click here to see the official implementation timeline.

For carriers and drivers that are using AOBRDS (automatic onboard recording devices) before the compliance date must transition to ELDs no later than December 16, 2019.

Click here to download a copy of the ELD rule.

What Is An ELD?

An ELD is an electronic solution that allows a CDL driver to easily comply with the HOS regulations.

All ELD’s are required to have certain technical and performance specifications.

ELD Requirements

Connect to the truck’s engine

Driver must be able to log in and select On-duty, Off-duty, or On-Duty Not Driving

Automatically set Drive status when the truck begins to move

Display graphically a Record of Duty Status, so a driver can quickly see hours in a day

Provide data in a standard format that can be sent to law enforcement in a number of ways, such as wireless web services, USB, or Bluetooth 2.0

Be provider-certified that the device meets the proper specifications

Be listed on the FMCSA website

What Is HOS?

The Hours of Service (HOS) regulations are set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to govern how many hours a driver can operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). The rules limit the number of daily and weekly hours that a commercial driver can spend working and driving. The purpose of the rules are to increase safety by reducing the amount of accidents caused by fatigue.

The FMCSA is responsible for enforcing HOS regulations. To comply with the regulations a CMV driver is required to maintain a log book indicating the amount of hours spent driving and resting.
