Stolen Ambulance Captured on Video

August 14, 2021

Ambulance Goes Missing

On the night of July 21, 2021, a private ambulance was stolen directly from a hospital. The vehicle belonged to one of our clients. The individual took the vehicle while the employee was inside. A guard attempted to stop him, but the thief pulled out a knife and drove away. As the ambulance sped away the guard shot one of the rear tires. He got away for about 15 minutes before the police caught him. Little did he know that there was a GPS tracking camera recording everything he did.

As soon as the dispatcher knew the vehicle was stolen, she turned on the live video to watch the entire event in real time. She could see the ambulance moving across the map. This helped her guide the police to the exact location. With the driver facing camera she could also clearly identify the individual.

Video Evidence

A complete video record of the driver and the road was captured and downloaded for evidence. The GPS records were also included. This provides great evidence to the police as well as the insurance company in case there was any damage.

This story is a great example of how GPS tracking cameras can provide benefits in unusual ways. A solid, reliable record of what happens in and around your vehicles is good business practice. You never know what might happen.

If you want to learn how we can help you achieve the same thing, please contact us today. We will show you a live demo so you can see how it works for a real customer.

Getting Better: How One Gravel Hauling Company Uses GPS Tracking Cameras

Stix Trucking

Stix Trucking Discovers Benefits of GPS Tracking Cameras

In this article I want to introduce you to one of our best customers, Stix Trucking out of San Antonio, TX. They are a gravel hauling company that does work all around the San Antonio region. Mario, the owner, was looking for an affordable GPS camera system for his fleet of 4 trucks. He wanted to capture video from all sides of the vehicles. He also needed to be able to find his trucks at any time.

Stix Trucking was very concerned about safety, video evidence, and more accurate records. They also wanted to work with a local company that could take care of them. Someone who is responsive and knowledgeable.

The owner wanted to capture video of the road in front of the truck, the driver, the sides, and the rear. In particular he was interested in watching the load in the back of his truck.

On top of video they also needed GPS tracking, They have to locate their vehicles in real time, track hours for payroll, and make sure their drivers are not speeding.

Based on those requirements, I recommended our AI-12 GPS tracking camera with HD Fleet service. This was the most affordable option that provided all the benefits that Stix wanted.

Video Evidence

Stix Trucking was concerned about incidents happening on the road. Mario wanted to make sure he had video evidence in case any thing occurred. With the AI-12 he was able to do that. It comes standard with a forward and driver facing camera. There is also the option of adding external Wi-Fi cameras that can be mounted in a variety of places around a vehicle.

A forward facing camera obviously provides great evidence for anything that happens in front. However, a lot of incidents happen on the sides especially when it’s a larger truck. Mario wanted to make sure he had coverage on each side of his trucks. So we installed a camera on each side mirror. This provides great coverage down the side of each truck. Now if anything happens on the side he is covered.

Watch the Load

Mario was also very concerned about the load they were carrying. He wanted to watch the trailer to make sure that everything was loaded correctly. He needed a quick and easy way to do that. The AI-12 allows him to easily review video while material is being loaded into the trailer. This can help him save time and money by catching a problem before it gets out of hand.

Slow Down the Trucks

Speeding is a critical factor in many accidents. One bad accident could ruin a business in a heartbeat. So Mario needed an easy way to protect his business and make sure his drivers were obeying the law.

The great news is that HD Fleet automatically detects when a vehicle goes above the posted speed limit. That information is available in a report and can also be sent as an alert by email or text. This gives Mario the ability to coach his drivers so they can slow down and prevent an accident.

Real Time GPS Tracking

Besides video Mario also needed the ability to track his vehicles in real time, automate time sheets, and have proof of service. Since the AI-12 is also a GPS tracker it could do all of these things and more.

Mario needs the ability to locate his trucks at any time and from any where to better manage his business. With the HD Fleet website or mobile app he can do it. If a customer calls and asks where their load is Mario can find out right away.

Save Time and Money by Automating Time Sheets

Mario pays his drivers by the hour. Before he had a GPS camera he had to calculate the time sheets manually. This was time consuming and prone to errors. If he had to verify any records it was difficult to do because the information did not exist or was hard to get too. He needed an easy to use system that could help automate and improve the accuracy of his time sheets.

Fortunately. the AI-12 and HD Fleet were up to the task. Every customer gets a series of time sheet reports that can be run by day, vehicle, or driver. These reports have made life much easier for Mario. All he has to do is run the report and check the start and end times for any errors. Payroll can now be done in 30 minutes or less.

Since the cameras have been installed Mario has been able to better manage his business. He does not have to spend time gathering information he can go to one place and get everything, video, GPS records, time stamps, reports, and much more.

Hit and Run Caught on Vehicle Camera

Hit and Run Accident Caught on Vehicle Camera

A GPS tracking video camera can do more than just protect your business. It can also help others.

Not too long ago one of our customer’s drivers witnessed a hit and run accident. The good news is that no one was hurt, but instead of taking responsibility the other party decided to take off.

Fortunately for the victim the incident was captured on my customer’s GPS tracking video camera.

The driver pulled over to offer the victim a video clip of what was captured. We were able to get them a clip of the entire incident. This was extremely valuable in helping the victim try to identify who hit him.

Take a look at what happened.

This is a great example of how an in-vehicle video camera can help make a difference. Most people think about how the camera can benefit them, but in this case it helped someone else.

TX Commercial Vehicle Insurance Is Rising

Texas Commercial Vehicle Increases Every Year

If you own or operate a commercial vehicle in Texas then you know that commercial vehicle insurance rates seems to increase every year. It is getting more expensive to operate a commercial vehicle which directly hits your bottom line.

In the fall of 2019 The Texas Department of Insurance approved a request by the Texas Automobile Insurance Plan Association (TAIPA) to increase the rate for commercial vehicle insurance. The rate will increase 4.8%.

The TAIPA is a not-for-profit auto insurer of last resort in Texas, the membership of which includes all Texas-authorized insurers.

In my opinion, if the TAIPA raises its rates then it is pretty certain that rates are rising across all insurers.

Commercial vehicle insurance rates are rising in Texas even if your drivers have great safety records. The reason is due to several factors.

One is the increasing jury awards for commercial vehicle accidents. When the insurance companies pay out those massive awards they pass the cost to their customers in the form of increased premiums.

Another reason is that Texas is a fast growing state. We have more people moving here every day. The increased population creates more chances for accidents and frivolous lawsuits.

Another major factor is the large number if uninsured motorists in Texas. The national average for uninsured motorists is 13%. In Texas it is 14.1%. This affects your rates because the insurance companies face a risk of people filing uninsured motorist claims.

What Can You Do About It?

You cannot control other drivers. However, you can protect yourself by installing a GPS tracking video camera. The video camera can protect you in 2 ways.

  1. Provides evidence in case of an accident
  2. Accountability for your drivers

Keep the Lawyers Away

Video evidence is a great tool in case of an accident. Most GPS tracking video cameras comes with a forward road facing camera and a driver facing camera. This way you can see the road in front of the vehicle and the driver.

If there is an accident or some other event then you will have evidence of what occurred inside and in front of the vehicle. This can be invaluable.

The video will hopefully give you the evidence you need to prevent or dismiss any lawsuit immediately. This can save you thousands of dollars in increased premiums and countless hours stuck in a deposition.

Prevent the Accident

The best way to avoid an accident is to prevent it. With video you can make sure that your employees are driving safely.

A GPS tracking video camera can help you prevent distracted driving, especially texting and driving, which is one of the leading causes of vehicle accidents. It is also one of the most preventable.

The video camera allows you to watch your employees driving whenever you want. With a random check you can make sure that they are not using their phone. It is like a random inspection that you control.

If something occurs then you will have accurate evidence to show your driver what happened. There will be no more disputes between you and the driver because everyone will be on the same page. The video does not lie.

The camera will also alert you every time the driver hits the brakes really hard. This could mean that he or she was distracted , such as texting and driving, and then hit the brakes all of a sudden.

It could also indicate unsafe driving habits such as tailgaiting or following too closely. If your driver is continuously doing that then eventually he or she is going to hit someone. When that happens it is going to cost you.

If you can protect yourself by using a GPS tracking video camera then you will be able to help keep your insurance premiums lower and those of everyone else as well.
